Workin Girl

At the beginning of this month I officially became a nurse. I have had my license since June but I have not been allowed to be on my own until the beginning of October. Something I miss about that is being able to pretty much work whatever days I wanted as long as I worked 40 hours a week. Now I am on the official ER schedule and it looks like Im going to be spending the holidays at work. Thats right....I am working thanksgiving and Christmas. I am however going to be off New Years....so Dave and I are heading with friends to Atlanta. I'm sad that I won't be home for the holidays. This is the first time I won't be home:( On to present news. Dave and I will be in Austin, TX for halloween. I'll be sure to post pictures of our costumes. We are going as super mario and the princess. This should be interesting. Dave is going to shave off his beard and only sport the mustache for the weekend.

Watchin the Mail

I have a confession to make. I have found myself watching the mail lately. I have learned that in the real world it seems like everything revolves around getting the bills paid. Anyway enough about that.
So in the weeks since I have not written Mom and Dad have come to cleveland and helped me with some things around the house. Painting, recovering chairs, cleaning......stuff like that....I have to say though Mom and Dad did most of it.
I also went on a little vacation. Dave and I went out to Denver to the Mile High Music Festival. Dave lived out there for three year so I got to meet a lot of his friends I have never met before. We had a really good time....got to see a lot of good music and hang out with friends.

Not blog savey

I am REALLY not computer savey when it comes to doing this blog thing. I still can't figure out how to get it like I want it. I am going to need to get tips from Felicia.
Went to work today......I was actually on the schedule. Wahoo! Getting my FIRST paycheck on Friday. I know that this is great comfort to Bank Dad. I know that Bank Dad will be happy when I terminate my account.

Things I have learned

Here are some things that I have learned since living on my own.
1) Mow the yard before it gets so tall you have to mow it twice.
2) Make sure I have a dishwasher in my next house.
3) Read schedule every night to see if I actually work the next day and what time
I'll keep ya'll posted on the next lessons learned.

My first week as an RN.

I'm not sure if I am going to very good at this blogging thing. It's hard to remember to keep it up.
So I recently finished my first week as a registered nurse. It was terrifying and fun all at the same time. I started out the week with only one room in the ER and by the end of the week I had three rooms all on my own. I was really nervous about having three rooms but my preceptor seemed to think that I could do it. So I went for it and it went great. The wonderful thing about the ER is that it is so busy it is almost impossible to be bored and my day practically flies by.
After my first week as a big girl I thought I deserved a fun Fourth of July. Heard some good music Friday night with Dave. Saturday I got to go out on the lake with Dave and some friends then finished the night of at Dave's parents with some of the best BBQ ribs you have ever put in your mouth. Sunday went back to Dave's parents. We played bocci and ate leftovers from the 4th.
I had an interesting morning today. I got up at 5:00 am. To get ready for work. On my way to clarksdale I decided just to look at my schedule and luckily realized that I wasn't even on the schedule before I got all the way there.

My First Weeks in the Real World

Okay, after a week working in the hospital I have begun to wonder why people get in such a hurry to grow up? Once you get there you just keep going....growing.
As you can see this blog is named My Life as a Big Girl. This is not entirely true yet. Technically I am still on the payroll of the parentals. I am sure they can't wait for the day when I can stand on my two feet. Although I am looking forward to standing on my own two feet I am a little worried about being off the payroll (I'm kinda high maintanence).
Today started my first actual week of working in the ER. Last week I just had general hospital orientation. I was a little unsure of what time to be there so I decided being an hour early would be better than being an hour late. Typically I just zone out on the way to Clarksdale, its flat, its mostly straight....doesn't really take much concentration to get there. Anyway..as I got close to Clarksdale I came across a one car accident in the highway. It had apparently just happened. At first I didn't see anyone in the vehicle. As I started to go around I saw the man in the front seat who seemed to have some lacerations to the head. I must say that it felt really good to be able to stop and actually help until the paramedics got there. Luckily an EMT was also on his way to work and stopped to help as well. Thank goodness I didn't have to do much. I have not even had my license a month. The man was fine and I had a little adrenaline rush before work.
